Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Tuesday, March 30, 2004

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

Present:

  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman

Absent:

  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman.

Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Hill seconded the motion, and the Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.

The Chairman delivered a brief report. Various contacts have been made with some immigration reform advocacy groups, and many have expressed an interest in joining the party. The Chairman is preparing some materials for internal publication to the party's leaders, and has completed contacting most of the state party chairmen since his election as National Chairman.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the March 23, 2004 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters and adopted by unanimous vote.

The Secretary reported that the membership forms are being sent out to people who directly request to "join the party", as well as to people who are flagged in the database by the Party Building volunteers to receive them based upon their contact and feedback. Of course, prospects in states with affiliated state parties are simply referred to the proper state party building contact.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is around $2,750. There are no outstanding invoices left to be paid at this time.

Mr. White reported steady activity contacting prospects in North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida during the past week. A discussion was held about prospects for two new state parties.

Mr. Carroll reported that the Platform Committee will meet in nine days on Thursday evening. A National Committee nominee will be interviewed at that time.

Mrs. Winters reported that the Public Relations Committee will meet next Monday evening. She reported receiving a strong response in her own state for membership and activity. Mrs. Winters will be taping a half hour television program to be shown in New Hampshire this month that will promote the party and its agenda.

Mr. Charles delivered the Rules Committee report. A very productive meeting was held last Saturday, with another scheduled for two weeks later.

The possibility of holding a National Committee meeting on the 20th of this month was discussed. No formal action was taken.

A discussion was held regarding some possible candidates in New Hampshire.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Carroll, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
