Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Tuesday, March 8, 2005

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:


  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman


  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:13 p.m.

Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. White seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.

The Chairman delivered his report. The press release on domestic oil production has gotten more positive response and been picked up by several important blogs. The Chairman has been contacting members of the National Committee regarding additional involvement in the standing committees.

A discussion was held regarding an upcoming press release on the Administration's betrayal of veterans. Another discussion was held regarding the President's position on embryonic stem cell research.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the March 1, 2005 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. Golmon abstaining.

The Secretary reported that the Newsletter will be submitted to the printer tomorrow morning.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $2260.84. The FEC monthly report has been filed.

Mr. Golmon reported that he has recruited a new member for the Ballot Access Committee. He is soliciting additional members. He has started preparing a new update on ballot access bills and regulations which he will circulate to the membership.

A discussion was had regarding preparing reports from the contact database to help locate volunteers for the standing committees. The Secretary will provide such reports shortly.

Mr. Charles reported that he will be sending the latest revision of the Finance Committee fundraising proposal to that committee later this evening.

A discussion was held regarding the Party Building manual that Mr. Golmon is preparing.

Mrs. Winters reported that the Public Relations Committee will continue its work at Thursday evening's meeting. A brief mention was made of the fact that the Public Relations Committee needs to begin work on the next quarterly newsletter, and also a revision of the generic newsletter.

Mr. Charles stated that he will be calling a Rules Committee discussion meeting for this Saturday to begin work on the procedure for transforming Organizing Committees into State Parties.

A general discussion was held regarding activism and the need for more volunteers to get the word out about the party. An idea of holding a series of conference calls to energize and organize members in unorganized states was discussed.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 10:25 p.m.
