Tuesday, May 10, 2005
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
- John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
- Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
- Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:15 p.m.
Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. White seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered his report. He has been responding to various contacts. He commented on Joe Farah's column, which repeated most of our press release from two months ago regarding the betrayal by Republican judges in the Schiavo case.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the May 3, 2005 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $1762.23. There are no unpaid obligations. The April FEC report will be filed shortly.
Mr. Hill reported on the Finance Committee meeting. The fundraising plan timeline will be updated and he hopes that the Finance Committee will be able to approve the plan by the end of the week.
Mr. White reported that he has contacted prospects in several states to recruit members and activists. A long discussion on strategies for setting up organizing committees was held.
Mrs. Winters reported that the Public Relations Committee met last week, and will meet again Thursday to finalize the quarterly newsletter. A long discussion was had regarding immigration issues, and the growing problems with legal as well as illegal immigration. The consensus was that the Party needs to address the problems caused by both forms of immigration.
Mr. Charles reminded the members that the Rules Committee remains on hiatus until the end of the month.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mrs. Winters, seconded by Mr. Hill, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
