Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Tuesday, May 17, 2005

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman
  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman

  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:19 p.m.

Mr. White moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mrs. Winters seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.

The Chairman delivered his report. He has been handling a backlog of emails due to being off-line for about two weeks. Some problems have surfaced relative to spoofed emails which the Chairman will discuss under new business. Mr. Spitzig has turned in a report on potential convention venues.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the May 10, 2005 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous vote.

The thank-you letters have been mailed for all donors through the end of April.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $1859.00. There are no unpaid obligations. The April FEC report was filed earlier this day.

A discussion was held regarding the calling of a party building meeting.

The committee took a short recess.

Mrs. Winters stated that the Public Relations committee will be meeting Saturday afternoon to finalize the newsletter.

Mr. Charles reminded the members that the Rules Committee remains on hiatus until June.

The Chairman led a discussion concerning spoofed emails falsely representing the party in support of various issues and groups that the AFP does not support. Strategies for responding to such attacks were discussed.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Hey, seconded by Mrs. Winters, and adopted by unanimous consent, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

John Pittman Hey
