Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party
Monday, September 11, 2006
BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, September 11, 2006 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.
The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.
The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:
Present:
- Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
- John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
- Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman
- Peter Browning of Florida, Party Building Committee
- Mike Fleharty of Ohio, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
Absent:
- Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
- Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
JC Schweingrouber of Ohio, Public Relations Committee Chairman, and Mike Eller of Michigan, Finance Committee Chairman, joined the meeting after roll had been taken.
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:08 p.m.
Mr. Spitzig moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Browning seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.
The Chairman delivered his report. Several press releases have been sent since the last meeting. The Chairman has also prepared a new draft of an activist program for consideration by the Party Building Committee. He is preparing to attend the Organizing Committee founding meeting in Arizona next month. His article on the Middle East conflict has been posted on line. He also reported on his radio interview on a Virginia station last week.
The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the August 21, 2006 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Spitzig, and adopted by unanimous vote.
The Secretary reported that he mailed the required notices for the Arizona founding meeting last week.
The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $2101.06. There are no outstanding invoices due at this time.
The September report to the FEC has been submitted and may be viewed on the FEC's public web site.
Mr. Fleharty reported that the Ballot Access Committee will be meeting Wednesday evening. He reported on a positive ruling from the Ohio court relating to ballot access for third parties.
Mr. Eller delivered a Finance Committee report. At its last meeting, a discussion took place regarding obtaining and offering to the public AFP coffee mugs and buttons.
Mr. Browning delivered a Party Building Committee report. He reported that the founding meeting for the Arizona Organizing Committee is going forward for the first week in October. The Party Building Committee also has interviewed potential organizers for the state of Iowa.
Mr. Spitzig delivered the Platform Committee report. The Committee is considering additional technical corrections to the Platform to forward to the National Committee.
Mr. Schweingrouber delivered a Public Relations Committee report. The Committee is meeting tomorrow evening to discuss the next newsletter.
Mr. Hey reported that the Rules Committee does not have any issues outstanding at this time.
The members discussed the new web calendar that has been created.
There being no further business, upon motion made by Mr. Spitzig, seconded by Mr. Eller, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 9:49 p.m.
