Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Monday, September 29, 2008

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. East Coast Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

Present:

  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Chairman
  • John Hey of Mississippi, National Secretary and Treasurer
  • Michael Lynch of New York, Public Relations Committee Chairman
  • Peter Browning of Florida, Partybuilding Committee Chairman

Absent:

  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Candidates Committee Chairman
  • Martin McClellan of Florida, Vice-chairman
  • Joe Spitzig of Ohio, Platform Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:20 p.m.

Mr. Browning moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. Lynch seconded the motion. The Agenda was adopted by unanimous consent.

The Chairman delivered his report. Two press releases have been prepared and sent out, and he has completed another article for the upcoming newspaper. He has also worked with the Finance Committee to prepare for the upcoming National Committee meeting.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes for the September 22, 2008 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. Browning. The minutes were adopted by unanimous vote, Mr. White abstaining.

Responses from the newspaper are coming it and being processed. The Secretary is preparing to send out the follow-up fundraising letter to members and supporters.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $ 8931.23. There are no unpaid invoices at this time.

Mr. Hill reported that the Finance Committee is in the middle of a vote to approve the resolution for the National Committee to fund the printing of the upcoming newspaper.

Mr. Browning delivered the Partybuilding Committee report. He is working with the organizer in CA. He has been reaching out to possible volunteers to help with a future Patriot Alert email list.

Mr. Lynch reported the PR Committee met last Saturday to work on the upcoming newspaper. All the articles have been turned in. The Committee voted to refer a resolution to the National Committee to fund a banner ad to appear on the American Conservative website.

Mr. Hey reported that printed material has been forwarded by the Rules Committee to the candidate for the National Committee from Ohio for his review and study. He has been instructed to contact the Rules Committee when he is ready to submit to the interview.

The members discussed a resolution to create a "Patriot Alert" email list for sending out action alerts to members and supporters. Mr. Browning moved that the following resolution be forwarded to the National Committee for its consideration. His motion was seconded by Mr. Lynch. The resolution reads as follows:

The Operating Committee is hereby instructed to create an out-going only "Patriot Alert" email list.

The purpose of the list is to provide interested parties with information regarding activity items, state and federal legislation that should be supported or opposed, and other concrete action items that will advance the cause of the party and its ideals; all of which will be designed to promote political involvement by the list members.

The membership shall be open to all persons who request to receive it.

The Operating Committee shall be responsible to organize and direct the administration of the email list, and may appoint one or more persons to compile, compose, and issue the alerts.

The motion was approved by unanimous vote.

There being no further business, on motion made by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Browning, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 9:56 p.m.
