Party Joins Gun Rights Coalition

Boulder, CO - The America First Party is pleased to announce its membership in the "Coalition to End the Federal 'Assault Weapons' Ban", sponsored by the grassroots 2nd Amendment protection organization "Keep and Bear Arms". The coalition was formed shortly after Republican President George Bush announced his support for extending the federal ban on so-called "assault weapons" and ammunition clips capable of holding more than 10 rounds.

America First Party National Chairman Dan Charles said, "We are proud to be the only political party so recognized and wish to thank the KABA for allowing us to participate in its strong stand in favor of the Bill of Rights. Our party platform goes beyond the mission of this particular coalition. Allowing the ban on certain types of firearms to expire serves part of our larger goal of restoring the 2nd Amendment rights of all our citizens by repealing any and all laws that violate the notion that '...Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people to keep and bear arms.'"

Mr. Charles continued, "The 2nd Amendment exists to back up the 1st Amendment and the rest of the Bill of Rights. Our nation's Founders understood that these rights and our freedom were given to all of us by our Creator and that the Constitution could only protect those rights. One safeguard was the explicit and absolute nature of the 2nd Amendment. It is the ultimate persuader against a politician or party intent upon domestic mischief or skullduggery."

Frank Hackl, State Chairman of the America First Party of Wisconsin asserted, "A firearm, be it single shot or semi-automatic, is protected equally by the Constitution. A free people do not need permission to own guns. President Bush and his fellow Republicans who control both houses of Congress have let down our Constitution and the American people. They have made common cause with those who would trade safety for security and freedom. Perhaps it is time for freedom loving people to abandon both the Democrat and Republican Parties.”

"It is understandable why George Bush and the Republicans want to trample our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. They're all about keeping the government big and the people subservient, and grateful for the crumbs they allow us to keep,” said Ryan Walters, Chairman of the America First Party of Mississippi.

Mr. Charles continued, "President Bush supports a continued ban on many types of firearms and further intrusions into the people's right to keep and bear arms. His stand is not in keeping with the intent of the Founding Fathers and the explicit directions of the Constitution. Liberty is the merging of freedom and responsibility. The America First Party believes that our freedoms are protected when the populace is entrusted with the responsibility to protect our liberty. Our Constitution has done this. Our elected officials have not."
