Tell Bush to Nominate on Principle

Boulder, CO - The America First Party calls on President Bush to nominate a principled defender of the US Constitution to replace outgoing swing-vote Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and urges like-minded citizens to join our call by signing the petition available on the Party's website.

In announcing the availability of the online petition, National Chairman Dan Charles said, "President Bush promised during both Presidential campaigns that he would nominate another Scalia or Thomas to the Supreme Court, if he had the chance. With the resignation of Justice O'Connor, he has that opportunity. The America First Party's petition to the President is intended to remind him and his supporters what that means, with 10 simple demands."

Mr. Charles continued, "The petition demands that President Bush nominate a Justice who will stand for limited government and the inalienable rights of individuals and states. It reminds the President that his nominee must be willing to correct prior decisions that violate original intent, reject legislating from the bench and usurpation of the prerogatives of legislatures, and ignore foreign law when making decisions. It calls for the President's choice to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights as written and defend the free exercise of religion. Furthermore, it demands that the nominee not be chosen to reward a longtime friendship or fulfill some affirmative action agenda."

Starting today, Americans can send that reminder by signing the petition. Every day until a nominee is announced, the petition and a list of its signers will be sent to the White House.

Jonathan Hill, AFP National Vice Chairman added, "Simply being a Republican or being appointed by a Republican President who calls himself a conservative is not enough. Every bad Supreme Court decision of the last 35 years that cheapens life, waters down the Bill of Rights, expands the government leviathan, takes property, limits freedom of expression and religion, usurps the authority of legislatures, attacks our values, and destroys our Constitution can be laid at the feet of Republicans. The court has been majority GOP appointees since Nixon. Currently 7 of the 9 are GOP appointees. We ask you to join us in sending this strong message to the President. Whether you voted for him or chose to vote for a true conservative instead, remind him of the principles he claims to support."

The petition is available at: http://www.AmericaFirstParty.org/petitions

The America First Party was founded in April 2002 and is focused on electing principled citizen statesmen who will preserve and protect our people and our sovereignty, promote economic growth and independence, encourage the traditional values of faith, family, and responsibility, ensure equality before the law in protecting those rights granted by the Creator, and clean up our corrupted political system.

The Petition may be accessed here.
