AFP Endorses Right to Life Act
Boulder, CO -- Today, the America First Party announces its endorsement of H.R. 552--
the Right to Life Act. This important legislation has been allowed
to languish in committee for too long. The Party calls upon all
members of Congress who claim to be Pro-Life or to be defenders of
civil rights to support this legislation through co-sponsorship and
by working for its passage. The AFP is the only national political
party to have endorsed this important legislation.
National Chairman Dan Charles stated, "The Right to Life Act is a
simple, yet powerful piece of legislation. It declares the
personhood of every member of the human species. The Right to Life
Act reaffirms that no person shall be deprived of the right to life
without due process, as guaranteed by the 5th and 14th Amendments."
National Press Secretary Romelle Winters explained, "Writing for the
majority in Roe v. Wade, Justice Harry Blackmun stated that 'If
personhood is established, the case for legalized abortion collapses,
for the fetus' right to life will be guaranteed' under our
Constitution. H.R. 552 codifies what medical research has determined--
that life begins at conception."
Mr. Charles added, "H.R. 552 would not by itself outlaw abortion,
euthanasia, or research which creates human life only to destroy it.
It would, however, provide the legal definitions to support a Supreme
Court reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning such matters to the elected
representatives of the people. It would also create a Constitutional
framework for legislation that provides equal protection under law
for every human being under its jurisdiction."
Mr. Charles continued, "Neither federal law nor the Constitution
defines the word 'person', allowing a corrupt court to declare some
humans unworthy of justice by denying their personhood. It may once
have been acceptable to consider some people to be mere property. It
may once have been acceptable to declare that certain people are
subhuman and disposable. It is no more. It is time for members of
Congress who claim to be 'Pro-Life' or claim to be 'civil rights
champions' to act on those principles."
Mr. Charles concluded, "I commend the America First National
Committee for its adoption of this resolution which demands actions,
not just words, from our nation's elected leaders. We are hopeful
that our elected representatives will return to Washington from their
recess in observance of Passover and Easter ready to support this
legislation. We also call upon the Senate to introduce and pass
identical companion legislation."
The full text of the resolution is available on the Party's website here.
The America First Party was founded in April 2002 and is focused on electing principled citizen statesmen who will preserve and protect our people and our sovereignty, promote economic growth and independence, encourage the traditional values of faith, family, and responsibility, ensure equality before the law in protecting those rights granted by the Creator, and clean up our corrupted political system. In 2004, the AFP elected two-thirds of its candidates to public office.
