Minutes of the Operating Committee of the America First Party

Tuesday, June 1, 2004

BE IT REMEMBERED that the Operating Committee of the America First Party met on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, pursuant to the previous resolution of the Operating Committee.

The Chairman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Hey delivered the invocation.

The Secretary called the roll of Operating Committee members:

Present:

  • Dan Charles of Colorado, Chairman
  • John Pittman Hey of Mississippi, Secretary/Treasurer
  • Tom White of Massachusetts, Party Building Committee Chairman
  • Jon Hill of Massachusetts, Vice-chairman
  • Romelle Winters of New Hampshire, Public Relations Committee Chairman

Absent:

  • Trey Golmon of Mississippi, Ballot Access Committee Chairman
  • Larry Carroll of Colorado, Platform Committee Chairman

A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 9:13 p.m.

Mrs. Winters moved the adoption of the standard Agenda. Mr. White seconded the motion, and the Agenda was adopted by unanimous vote.

The Chairman delivered a brief report. He and Mrs. Winters are working on several media releases for later this week. Some writing has been done for the next newsletter. Several radio appearances are being planned for the near future.

The Secretary reminded the members that he had previously circulated draft minutes of the May 25, 2004 meeting of the Operating Committee. Mr. Hey moved the adoption of the minutes as published. His motion was seconded by Mr. White, and adopted by unanimous vote.

The Secretary reported that he is working on updating the party building web site and prospect management system so that updates are posted more rapidly.

The Treasurer reported that the party's bank balance is $1062.07. There is one outstanding invoice for mailing costs yet to be paid in the amount of $1122.35.

Mr. White reported that his candidacy for the 8th Suffolk District Assembly Seat in Massachusetts has been confirmed, and he is now officially on the ballot for the November election.

Mr. Charles reported that the Rules Committee will meet this Saturday to continue work on the Organizing Committee guidelines.

Mrs. Winters reported that the Public Relations Committee will be meeting next Monday to discuss the newsletter and the public relations database.

A discussion was held regarding disputes between calls for unity and the need to build a party from the grass roots. The Chairman will be posting some remarks to the party reflectors about the need to focus on grass roots party building instead of short-term support for candidacies which cannot succeed.

A discussion was held regarding the Federal Court's decision this morning to overturn the partial-birth abortion ban. The party's strategy in response to this decision was explored.

There being no further business, upon motion made by Mrs. Winters, seconded by Mr. Hey, and adopted by unanimous vote, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
